Meet Pastor Chris

April 9th, 2012

While attending Dallas Theological seminary Chris Simmons felt called to work with Cornerstone Baptist Church located in a distressed community in South Dallas. This area was known as a war zone with gang activity, drive by shootings and prostitution. For the past 24 years Pastor Chris has given his life to serve the people in this community. Under his leadership the church now serves this community by providing a clothes closet, meals for the homeless, a post prison ministry, as well as tutoring and mentoring ministry.

Homeless Care Kits

April 5th, 2012

I’m sure you’ve experienced that awkward moment when you pull up to a stoplight and you see a homeless person standing on the side of the road with a sign asking for help.  You don’t want to give them money because you’re not sure what they will do with it. Our latest initiative is designed to help you put your faith in action in a tangible way.

The You Are Not Forgotten Homeless Care Kits are a way that you can demonstrate God’s love to the homeless in your community and let them know that they are not forgotten without creating dependency. We are selling the kits fully stocked or just the bag that you can fill on your own. Each kit includes a tag which describes how to use the care kit and a place for you to learn more about the recipient.  It allows space for you to write down the person’s name, story, needs, skills and abilities and prayer requests. Inside the kit is a note card that encourages the recipient that they are not forgotten as well as verses to provide them with hope. There is also room for the donor to include a personalized note.

Click here to learn more about the care kits and where to purchase them.

Austin Angels

January 27th, 2012

Susan Brubaker-Ramirez had a great job and made good money as a Realtor. In spite of her success, she desired more out of life. Her new years resolution for 2010 was to give back to her community by serving once a month. She shared her desire with a group of friends over dinner and told them that her resolution included them joining her in service. They all agreed and Austin Angels was formed. Over the past two years they have mobilized hundreds of volunteers to serve and impact the city of Austin, TX.
